What can I use to get rid of spiders in my house?
Spiders can be a real nuisance to a lot of people even though most of them are harmless. There's just something about them crawling across the floor that will make you get up on the couch and yell at your spouse to get the shoe.
To control spiders there are two approaches you can take, non-chemical and chemical. The applications of both are completely different so if you want to use both, you can.
A. Non-Chemical
Start by trimming weeds around the foundation of the house or building and clean up trash or debris even in the smallest amounts. This will discourage spiders from living next to the house.
Spiders usually stay in houses because there is a good supply of insects that can be caught in their web. Try treating the insects or discourage the insects by eliminating bright lights or a lot of outdoor light from coming in.
A vacuum can be used to take care of spider webs, eggs and spiders. Once trapped, remove the bag and dispose of it. If a vacuum cannot be used, a broom will work.
All cracks or openings around doors and windows can be sealed tightly with weather-stripping. This can keep spiders from entering through small spaces.
B. Chemical
Spray the outside of the building with an insecticide. Be sure to spray corners, doors and windows. Do this on a schedule of once a month for optimal control. Chemicals that can be used include Sniper™, any permethrin products and most roach or hornet sprays for a contact kill.
My quote of the week comes from The Book of Country Knowledge. It reads, Never slap a man who chews tobacco."
