Is it too late to spray for bahia grass?
The ideal time to spray Ally on bahia grass would be April through June. This usually gets you the best kill. Spraying in July and August should get you a good suppression though. What this means is spraying will not kill the plant totally but it will suppress, or hold back, the grass from growing. This can keep the plant from seeding out and also keep it out of your cutting of hay. You can then come back in the spring and kill what is actively growing and not worry about the last seed crop germinating.
Now total kill can still be accomplished with spot treatments of Round-up or Finale but some loss of desirable grasses like bermuda can also occur if that plant is sprayed. You may try using a wick applicator in your yard or small area if this can be a problem or use a sprayer that can be adjusted to a large droplet size or straight stream instead of a broad stream to prevent the product from drifting and killing desirable grasses.
My quote of the week comes from Samuel Grafton. It reads, "A penny will hide the biggest star in the Universe if you hold it close enough to your eye."
