What kind of attractants do you have for deer?
Attractants can do more than bring in deer. They can also help to keep deer around your place if you don't want to see them hunted by your neighbors. There are several kinds of attractants you can use and each work a little differently.
Corn: No doubt the biggest attractant used. Most people think about it as a feed but think about what it's used for. To draw deer in to an area.
Food plots: Sometimes these can be used as attractants and sometimes they are planted just to help deer supplement their diet during the winter.
Buck Grub: Now this is what most hunters consider an attractant. This is a product that comes in a bag you can mix with corn or pour directly on the ground. One of the benefits of this is its high in fat and protein and also contains minerals that deer need.
Deer Cocaine: This is one of the old but popular attractants. This one is derived from sodium carbonate, calcium stearate, monosodium glutamate, natural and artificial sweeteners that deer crave. It is mixed with water and poured on the ground.
Hog Wild: This product is geared mostly toward hogs but will also work for deer. This is a natural sweet attractant using berry flavors, molasses and others. It can be poured on the ground or mixed wit corn.
Tinks Products: Tinks® makes several formulas that attract deer by scent. Most of these products give off smells that are similar to doe being in the area.
Remember to read and follow label directions when using these products. Also remember that you are drawing in animals that can be dangerous during certain times in the fall. So be careful when using them.
My quote of the week comes from Winston Churchill. It reads, "The further backwards you can look, the further forward you are likely to see."
