What can I use to keep my pets from chewing on my furniture?

Most pets, especially dogs,  chew on furniture when they are bored.  Puppies however will tear things up because they are curious, playful or teething.  Most of this chewing can usually be controlled with a few simple suggestions.
1.  Give the pet something to play with.  A toy that makes noise or one that is soft enough to chew on without tearing up.
2.  Give them a chew toy or bone.  Most dogs just need something to gnaw on.  Rawhide treats work well.
3.  Use hot pepper.  Spray or dust a little hot pepper around furniture that animals tend to chew on.  Just be sure you leave out a little water and keep children away from the area.
4.  Use commercial products.  Get-out-of-my-garden works well on many animals.  It produced an odor that they don't like.  Another is Dog-B-Gone.  Spray it around whatever you want he animal to stay away from.
Remember that most animals are just a little bored when they chew on furniture or clothes.  Play with them or give them something to do or play with and it just might solve your problem.
My quote of the week comes from Will Rogers.  It reads, "Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip."
