How can I keep squirrels out of my bird feeders?

People that feed birds usually have problems with squirrels getting into the feed and causing trouble.  Here are a few suggestions that can keep your feeders squirrel free.
Location-  Most feeders need to have 10 foot of space around them.  This may keep a squirrel from jumping on them from a tree ot bush.  The height of the feeder should be at least 6 foot because squirrels can jump 5 foot straight up.
Dome= Place a clear plastic dome above your feeder. If the squirrel slides down the rope it's hanging from, the dome will protect the feeder from the top by causing them to slide off.
Grease the pole= For feeders that are placed on a pole, try applying vaseline or spam to the pole.  This can create a fun show for you to watch.
If your feeders are suspended by rope or wires, try coating it with a larger plastic tube. This will rotate around the wire and slide as the squirrel goes across.
Hot Pepper=  Hot pepper mixed with the seed can give your squirrels a little hot taste and discourage them from coming back.  Many hot peppers seasonings can be beneficial to the birds at the same time.
Remember that squirrels will probably figure out a way to get in there anyway sooner ot later so enjoy watching them try.
My quote of the week comes from Blaise Pascal.  It reads, "Sincewe cannot know all there is to be known about anything, we ought to know a little about everything."
