What can I do to get grass to grow on new soil?
In many cases new soil is very low in organic matter unless it is a quality topsoil. And most can be very low in total nutrients also. Most synthetic fertilizers have little organic matter but are a good source of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous and pottasium.
Something that works well is tilling in a compost to the new ground or having it mixed with the soil that is being hauled in to your place. We have mixed many loads of ½ soil and ½ mushroom compost. This is very high in organic matter and will work well in your yard or garden when planting. Other compost that can be used it chicken litter compost or cattle manure compost. Other people make their own compost from leaves, grass and other material collected around the place. Anything high in organic matter will help.
If the compost you buy is fresh, you may want to mix it at a lower ratio to keep it from burning any plants.
My quote of the week comes from an unknown author. It reads,"Blessed is the man who has nothing to say and refrains from giving evidence of that fact."
