What can I plant this time of year to hold the soil in place.
The months of August and September are usually so dry that not much, if anything, will grow. And we are usually just a few weeks away from planting fall grasses. But if you want to plant something now to keep your soil from washing, try planting bermuda grass. And if possible, water it daily until it gets established. Most bermuda in our area will continue to grow into October. Once you get the grass growing, you can over seed with your fall grasses in September when temperatures start to cool off. Over seed with ryegrass or clover. This will keep you from disking up the bermuda you just planted and both will do a good job in holding your soil over the winter. Then next spring you should have the bermuda coming back before your winter grass dies out.
My quote of the week comes from Ronald Reagan. It reads, "Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book."
