TMD Sept. 1
When can I plant food plots for my deer?

Many people are ready to plant fall food plots.  Usually Labor Day acts like a switch that turns a sign on and says "time to plant".  But I would be careful not to plant to early.  Keep an eye on the temperature and the rainfall for the next few weeks.  When temperatures start dropping a little and we get a bit of moisture, it may be a little safer to plant.  In the past, the last part of September or the first part of October has been good as a rule of thumb for planting Fall food plots.  The exact time will depend on the weather.  Try to get a little bit of moisture in the ground to help the seed germinate.  If you must do something now, go ahead and incorporate a fertilizer blend.  Something like 13-13-13 or 15-05-10 should work well.  Keep it between at least 200 and 500 pounds per acre.
