What can I plant around my house this winter for a nice green lawn?
Fall and winter grasses in our area are few but the ones that are available are very good. I would recommend one of the Futura blends. In most cases, the Futura 3000 is the best blend to use. This will be the third year we have had this type and it has worked well. This is the same seed we sell to many of the high school baseball fields in the county. It is also planted on golf courses throughout the state.
Futura 3000 is a mixture of three perennial rye grasses. It establishes quickly and has a low growth habit which means less mowing and maintenance. Seeding rates are 5-7 pounds/1000 square feet or 175-250 pounds/acre and it can be planted now through December.
My quote of the week comes from Wiilliam Boetcker. It reads, "You cannot raise a man up by calling him down."
