What can I use on Mistletoe to get it out of my trees.
Mistletoe, although sought in great amounts during the holidays, can be very dangerous to your trees. Mistletoe is a parasite that attaches its roots down inside a tree's bark and into the tissue that carries water and minerals. The plant grows slowly and may take years before it shows any outside growth. Many times, mistletoe can eventually kill a tree.
There are a few things that can be done to control this parasite. Try to remove it before it produces seed and spreads to other limbs or trees. Mechanical control like pruning is the most effective method for removal. There is also a chemical growth regulator that can be sprayed called Florel. The spray needs to be applied when the mistletoe is dormant to be effective. If the mistletoe gets to bad, it may be necessary to cut down the tree and re-plant another variety that will be more resistant. This can include cedar, crape myrtle, sycamores and red woods to name a few.
My quote of the week comes from an unknown source. It reads, "Learn as if you were going to live forever, live as if you were going to die tomorrow."
