My bermuda grass is turning brown.  What's wrong with it?

This time of year most bermuda grasses start turning brown.  There's nothing necessarily wrong with it.  It's just going into dormancy.  Bermuda is a summer grass that will start growing in the spring and go into dormancy in the fall.  With temperatures getting cooler and daytime hours getting shorter, summer grass growth begins to slow down and will soon quit growing if they haven't already.  If you want to keep your yards or pastures green, over seed them with ryegrass or clover.  With the cool temperatures and moisture we have in the soil, now would be an excellent time to plant it.  Go ahead and mow down the dormant bermuda grass so the seeds will fall to the ground when you plant them and have enough sunlight to germinate.
So don't worry about the bermuda.  It will be back in the spring.
My quote of the week comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson.  It reads, "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
